When it comes to achieving goals, most people believe they need to make big changes to make progress and get results. They start making huge drastic changes and overhauling their entire life.

If this sounds a lot like you, don’t worry, I used to be like this too…

Every year I would set high goals for myself, and I would always tell myself that this year wouldn’t be like the last.

I would always start off strong and try to make severe changes in my life and how I do things. Of course, I made some progress, but every year I would always end up falling short.

For 3.5 years I struggled to try to accomplish all the goals I would set for myself. What was frustrating me the most was that I knew I could accomplish them. However, the process that I was trying to achieve them by, making these big changes and revamping my life, only made me fail over an extended period of time.

Failing to achieve my goals drained me emotionally. This actually had a huge negative impact on my self-confidence and my motivation.

I would start out setting SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, results-focused, and time-bound) and make the big changes that I thought I needed to. But obviously, something wasn’t working.

So what was the disconnect?

Why was it that even though I set SMART goals and made the big changes I still couldn’t reach my goals?

It turns out that trying to make big changes is one of the most common barriers to accomplishing your goals.

Trying to make big changes is like trying to run before you know how to walk!

Haven’t you wondered why so many people can’t keep their fitness and health goals? They start off by making drastic life changes like going on an extreme diet or exercising every morning. Changes that they can’t stick to.

So if making big changes doesn’t work, what is the answer?

The first and most important key to accomplishing your goals is to consistently take massive action on small tasks and making small changes towards the direction of your bigger goal.

Success comes down to consistently focusing on completing the small actions that matter. So, it’s not about the BIG changes that will expedite your success…it’s consistently taking massive action on the smaller goals and rituals you set for yourself.
